Why image generation is not meme generation
Ask ChatGPT for a meme and it will usually draw you one. The result looks like a meme in the way a stock photo looks like a candid — technically correct, obviously not the real thing.

Route 1 — Add it as a custom app in ChatGPT
ChatGPT can connect to remote MCP servers through custom apps in developer mode. Per OpenAI's documentation this is available on Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, and developer mode has to be switched on first.

- 2In ChatGPT, confirm developer mode is enabled for your account.
- 3Admins go to Workspace settings → Apps → Create. Authorised users on Enterprise and Edu go to user settings → Apps → Create.
- 4Enter the MCP server endpoint: https://mcp.insidermemes.com/mcp
- 5Select the authentication type and provide it.
- 6Click Scan Tools and wait for it to finish, then complete the authorisation prompt if you are using OAuth.
- 7Click Create, then start a new chat with the app switched on.
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers only — it cannot reach a server running on your own machine. Availability and menu names are set by OpenAI and can change; if the menu looks different, check OpenAI's current help article.
Route 2 — Call it from the OpenAI API
If you are building on the API rather than chatting, the Responses API can call a remote MCP server directly. This works with any OpenAI API account.
